DataBank colocation pricing: cabinet, power and connectivity costs.

A city-published DataBank renewal reveals the price of a private cage and the clauses that can change its bill. Alongside it, a Kansas City cabinet promotion and DataBank's own ordering documentation show how space, power, cross-connects and support are packaged.

DataBank colocation pricing, public renewal terms and billing rules

Where DataBank fits

DataBank offers cabinets, private cages and suites with configurable power, security and layout. A single cabinet and a private suite can suit different stages of growth, but the building still determines the available power, cooling and carrier options.

A public DataBank cage renewal, with power terms

Sunnyvale approved a five-year, $1,270,500 authorization on January 28, 2025, plus a separate $127,050 contingency. The attached order is unsigned; it is evidence of approved procurement, not proof of an executed invoice.

Renewal 112976: SFO1, billing start April 1, 2025; 60 months.

Order itemPublished basis
Private cage250 square feet
Power commitment55 kW, A/B provisioned
Rate and recurring total$385/kW-month; $21,175/month
One-time total$0; $3,299.10 is the monthly increase
Excess consumption100% of the contracted kW rate per excess kW
Utility adjustment10% trigger; initial utility rate $0.1620/kWh
Circuit loadingCombined A/B draw limited to 80% of breaker
Connected capacityUp to 130% of commitment; not extra permitted draw
Annual increase3%, unless the MSA specifies otherwise
RenewalSame-length automatic term; 90-day notice, unless overridden

The order calls the model all-in, but includes utility-adjustment and burst clauses. It does not make every ancillary service free. The renewal cuts the commitment from 63 to 55 kW while raising the monthly charge from $17,875.90.

Read the whole price mechanism

Our recommendation: settle electricity recovery, excess-load measurement and renewal notice together. A bundled price can still change during the term. Ask for the signed MSA and order before treating any default clause as controlling. Do not treat the council authorization as a fixed full-term invoice total without reconciling the escalation and utility clauses.

Confirm eligibility, availability, contract length and the current offer in writing. The page does not establish installation charges, the allowed continuous load, burst pricing or renewal pricing. Its cloud, managed services and interconnection options should be priced separately unless the order explicitly includes them.

A local offer is a comparison point

It does not establish DataBank pricing in Dallas, Denver or another Kansas City building. Do not divide the promotional total by the sum of both feed ratings to create a provider-wide per-kW rate.

Cabinet power and cooling depend on the building

DataBank facility pages make the differences visible. DFW3 in Plano lists 10 kW-plus air-cooled cabinet density; LGA4 in Orangeburg lists 35 kW-plus air and 100 kW-plus liquid-cooled cabinet density. These are advertised facility capabilities, not confirmed capacity for your order.

Facility examplePublished cooling capability
DFW3, Plano10 kW+ cabinet density, air
LGA4, Orangeburg35 kW+ air; 100 kW+ liquid

Request the supported density at your assigned cabinets, the available circuit configuration, permitted continuous draw and the cost of any cooling work. For liquid cooling, establish who supplies and maintains the distribution equipment and where the provider responsibility ends. Compare electricity inclusion, metering and overage terms in writing.

DataBank cross-connect billing: four possible charge lines

DataBank's Interconnects Ordering V2 guide, updated February 14, 2026, exposes a more useful breakdown than a generic cross-connect estimate:

Order linePublished billing treatment
Interconnection circuitMonthly and one-time charges per circuit
ExpediteOne-time fee when selected
Remote Hands assistanceOne-time time-and-material charge
Third-party cross-connectMonthly and one-time charges within another operator's suite, if applicable

The guide lists typical 12-, 24- and 36-month terms and an option to align the end date with an existing order. Prices are calculated in the customer portal; this is a billing structure, not a public dollar schedule.

Our recommendation: request both sides of the path on the quote. A connection to a carrier in another operator's suite can introduce a second recurring charge. Confirm who supplies the authorization and endpoint details before committing to the installation date.

Remote Hands: priority, scope and payment model

DataBank's Remote Hands datasheet distinguishes Priority 1 issues needing immediate attention from Priority 2 noncritical or scheduled work. It lists rack-and-stack, reboots, console access, component installation and troubleshooting, with a pay-as-you-go model. It does not publish an hourly rate, minimum increment or numerical response-time guarantee.

That distinction matters when a budget assumes routine support is included. A service available around the clock can still carry a separate labor charge. Confirm which priority your task receives, whether scheduled work has a different rate, and whether materials or a minimum callout add to the bill.

Request in writingReason
Hourly rate and billing incrementA short task may incur a minimum charge
Priority and response commitmentImmediate attention is not a specific completion deadline
Scope and authorization limitAvoid unapproved troubleshooting or replacement work
Prepaid hours, if offeredCheck eligible tasks, expiry and transfer rights

Our recommendation: price your expected monthly workload, including planned changes and one emergency callout, rather than assuming the lowest hourly line is the cheapest support arrangement.

A recent filed deployment separates colocation from bandwidth

Kinetic Seas' March 2024 SEC filing describes its December 2023 DataBank ORD4 order as one 42U enclosure with two 60A, 208V, three-phase circuits. It separately reports a two-year internet agreement for 10G connectivity and two fiber connections. The filing does not disclose the DataBank price.

Our recommendation: compare the complete deployment across suppliers, even when the cabinet and internet are on different contracts. Circuit ratings alone do not establish the contracted usable IT load or the cost of redundancy. Do not turn this configuration into a priced offer.

Read the quote line by line

Charge or termWhat to compare
SpaceCabinet dimensions and count, cage layout, supplied racks and expansion rights
PowerCommitted kW or kVA, usable load, A/B feeds, metering and overage
ConnectivityEvery port and circuit, recurring fees and installation
SupportIncluded hours, hourly rates, response commitments and minimums
SetupCage construction, circuits, cabling, migration and deposits
ContractStart date, annual increases, renewal notice and early termination

Our recommendation: ask each bidder to return a monthly recurring total, a one-time total and a full-term schedule. Keep usage charges separate and calculate them using the same workload assumptions. Compare when billing begins with when the required power and connectivity are actually ready.

Use the colocation RFP template to collect comparable responses. For a private cage, specify the layout and growth plan alongside the power requirement.

Concessions and moving between DataBank facilities

In its historical SAN2 closure FAQ, DataBank offered affected customers moving to SAN1 two months of recurring-charge relief, the same space-and-power recurring price, and waived space-and-power installation. That offer concerned a specific move with a September 30, 2023 deadline.

Source: DataBank SAN2 decommissioning FAQ, historical 2023 relocation offer.

It is evidence that migration concessions have existed, not a promise of free relocation today. Our recommendation: ask whether an internal move preserves the remaining commitment, resets the term, or changes the recurring rate. Put any overlap period, setup waiver and revenue-transfer credit into the order.

For a renewal, request both the existing and proposed kW commitment. A smaller monthly bill may simply buy less power; a higher one can combine a rate reset with a scope change. Keep the old and new configurations beside the dollar totals.

What remains specific to your quote

The Sunnyvale renewal is one public procurement, and the Kansas City promotion has membership and location restrictions. Neither is a national DataBank tariff. Current cross-connect dollar rates, Remote Hands rates, installation scope, availability and the controlling MSA still need confirmation for your order.

Our recommendation: request a complete order pack with space, usable power, electricity treatment, every connection, support rates, commencement conditions and renewal notice. Compare it with the Equinix profile, Digital Realty profile and colocation pricing guide.
