Market guide / North Carolina outside Charlotte

Start a North Carolina search with the region and the building.

Catawba County, the Research Triangle and the Triad answer different requirements. This guide separates public air records, network listings and announced capacity outside the Charlotte market.

North Carolina outside Charlotte data center and colocation evidence
Market profile

What the public evidence can tell you

The air register names Apple and Microsoft in Catawba County, Amazon at Hamlet and Fidelity in Research Triangle Park. Those records identify sites. They do not establish retail colocation, spare power or a delivery date. For a cabinet or cage search, begin with the buildings in the interconnection table and ask the operator what can be contracted.

Keep the regions separate

Catawba County

The linked air records name Apple at Maiden and Microsoft at Conover, Maiden and Newton. A named campus is a useful siting signal, but its presence does not establish an offer of colocation to other companies.

Research Triangle

PeeringDB lists buildings in Raleigh, Durham and Morrisville, including CyrusOne, Flexential and TierPoint. Compare the exact network connections and support arrangements at each address. A regional network count cannot tell you whether your carrier reaches a particular room.

Triad and Madison

The WhiteFiber project at Madison is in Rockingham County. Its disclosed Nscale contract is separate from the Amazon air record at Hamlet in Richmond County. Similar county names do not make these the same project.

Western North Carolina

Asheville and Lenoir have public network listings. Forest City and Kings Mountain appear in the air records. These places are shown separately from Charlotte; this guide is a regional comparison, not a claim that every site serves the same local requirement.

Air-register evidence, not a construction schedule

The air records below are undated. Several retain a Permanently Closed status, including the old American Express, Disney, Hosted Solutions and UNC Hospitals entries. These are register statuses, not a fresh inspection of each property. They must not be counted as operating or available inventory.

Collected from EPA ECHO air facility records for North Carolina. A permit or air-register entry documents a site or proposed work. It does not establish current construction or available space, and no public filing anywhere discloses what is contractible at a named building. That answer comes from an operator call, which is the part we do by hand. See how we verify capacity.

Check the underlying records

These public entries were checked against our collected data on 24 September 2026. Each link opens its EPA record. A register status does not establish a current commercial offering.

Where network operators list a presence

The following counts are PeeringDB listings. A network listed in more than one building contributes a presence at each; these are not unique regional carrier counts. Multiple registry entries can also refer to the same property. Confirm the required carriers and routes at the exact address.

Who is actually plugged in across North Carolina outside Charlotte

A building existing and a building being connected are different facts, and only one of them decides whether your traffic can get where it needs to go cheaply. These figures come from PeeringDB, which the network operators themselves maintain, so every row below links to the building's own public entry.

From PeeringDB, which is maintained by the network operators present in these buildings rather than by the landlords, which is what makes it worth more than a directory. Two limits. Entries are voluntary, so a building showing no networks may be single tenant or may simply never have registered. And a network being present says nothing about whether the building has space, power or a price for you: that is still a call.

Facility inventory coverage

Our committed verified-inventory snapshot has no separate coverage for this region. We therefore publish no inventory count or available-space estimate here. Public air and network records remain separate evidence, with their own limits. See what verified building means.

What has been announced in North Carolina outside Charlotte

Announcements are not filings. Nobody has to build what they announce, the figure is the one the developer chose to publish, and the date moves. They are here because megawatts are what a requirement is measured in, and because the size of what is coming changes who will take your call. Every figure below links to a published report that states it, and was checked against at least one other independent report before it was written down.

Announced, not filed1 projectLargest: 40 MW
CapacityOperatorProjectWhat was announced
40 MWWhiteFiberNC-1, Madison, Rockingham CountyThe September 2026 investor presentation says initial billing began in Q3, with the full ramp still subject to delivery, commissioning and customer acceptance. Earlier April and May 2026 billing targets in the December announcement were not achieved on that schedule. The 99 MW utility agreement and possible 200 MW supply describe different, conditional power measures and are not added to this row. Critical IT load contracted to Nscale, not unleased capacity
Read this before quoting any of it

This is a disclosed contract at one campus, not a North Carolina supply total. It does not show spare capacity for another tenant. Public air-register entries for other campuses contain no usable IT-load figure in our collected records; their megawatts remain unmeasured here. Read the reporting.

Announced capacity is collected by hand from trade reporting and company statements, and each figure links to the report it came from. It is kept apart from the permit record above and never added to it: one is a document a jurisdiction issued, the other is a plan a company published. Neither is availability.

The contracted IT-load figure is stated in WhiteFiber's September investor presentation and independently reported by NC AI News. Neither establishes that the entire contracted load has completed customer acceptance.

How to compare an actual requirement

Compare a network-led requirement with Charlotte and Richmond. Set a travel radius and name the carriers you need before comparing prices. For a larger deployment, request utility delivery milestones, usable IT load and customer acceptance dates separately.

Ask for a dated answer

Request the sellable IT load, rack density, cooling method, carrier access and ready-for-service date in writing. Distinguish power already delivered from power that depends on utility work. Record whether a quote reserves space and how long that reservation lasts.
