The short version
Colocation Scout offers optional business-IP and website analytics. These tools run while you use the site. A notice on your first visit says so, and you can opt out at any time. When they are running, our hosting and analytics services process the visitor's IP address, page URL, referring page, browser user-agent, timestamp, and related visit data. We use this information to understand site activity, identify when a visit appears to come from a company network, improve our content, and support business-to-business sales outreach.
We do not use a lead form to unlock content or calculator results. We do not use browser fingerprinting. Visitors can opt out of optional analytics and revisit that choice at any time through the "Analytics settings" control.
Business-IP analytics
While analytics are on, the site sends the current page URL and referrer to a server-side function hosted by Netlify. Netlify provides the connection IP address and browser user-agent to that function. The function sends the IP address to ipapi.is to classify the network and, when available, associate a business name and domain with it.
Visit information can include the full IP address, network classification, associated company or network provider, domain, page viewed, referrer, browser user-agent, site name, and timestamp. The current analytics workflow sends visit records to a Google Apps Script endpoint and Google Sheet used by our advisory team. Business visits may be grouped by company and used for sales outreach. Consumer, internet-service-provider, hosting, bot, or unmatched traffic may also be logged for measurement, filtering, troubleshooting, and system quality review.
Business-IP identification is an estimate based on network registration and related data. It may identify an employer, office network, carrier, hosting provider, or another organization associated with the connection. It does not tell us which individual person viewed a page.
Shadow analytics workflow
We also run a second analytics workflow in shadow mode to test filtering and data minimization. It classifies visits for bots, geography, consumer or hosting networks, and likely businesses. This workflow writes to Netlify Blobs only and does not write to Google Sheets.
Shadow-mode records store a shortened network prefix rather than the full IP address. They can include the visit time, site, page, referrer, company name, domain, network type, reverse-DNS evidence when available, outcome, and an intent score based on page type. The shortened network prefix and lookup results may be cached to reduce repeated third-party lookups.
How we use information
- Understand which pages and topics are useful.
- Measure traffic and troubleshoot the website and analytics workflow.
- Filter bots, hosting traffic, consumer networks, and other non-business activity.
- Identify organizations that may have a relevant business need.
- Prioritize and conduct business-to-business sales outreach.
- Maintain records of company interest and repeat visits.
Service providers
Netlify hosts the site, applies regional access controls, runs the server-side functions, and stores shadow-mode analytics. ipapi.is provides network and company classification. Google Apps Script and Google Sheets receive and store records from the current analytics workflow. Snitcher provides website and business-visitor analytics. These services process information under their own terms and privacy practices while providing services to us.
What you send us on the requirement form
The "Tell us what you need" form asks for your name, company, work email, and an optional phone number, along with the requirement itself: capacity, target market, delivery date, redundancy, cooling and any notes you add. Those entries are submitted to Netlify's form service, stored with your submission, and sent to our advisory team so a scout can respond. We use them to answer you and to source against the requirement. We do not sell them, and completing the form is not required to read anything on this site.
When we take a requirement to operators we describe it without naming you. Your identity is shared with a provider only when it is needed to validate or quote an option, and with your permission. Ask us at any time to see, correct, or delete what you sent.
Analytics choices and storage
Optional analytics run unless you opt out. Snitcher may use browser storage to recognize visits across sessions and measure engagement. If you opt out, the optional business-IP beacon and Snitcher tracker are not loaded, and the page reloads to unload anything already running. The site stores your choice in your browser so it is honored on later visits. You can reopen "Analytics settings" at any time to change it.
Regional availability
The site currently does not provide access to visitors whom Netlify geolocates to a European country. Those requests receive a regional-unavailability response before the website and its analytics scripts are served. Geolocation is approximate and is based on the request's network address.
Calculator information
The cost calculator runs in your browser. The power, term, and use-case selections are used to update the result on the page. The calculator does not submit those inputs as a lead form. Like every page, the calculator page visit itself is covered by the business-IP analytics described above.
Retention and sharing
We retain analytics and business outreach records for as long as reasonably useful for the purposes described here, subject to operational, legal, and security needs. We do not sell personal information. We share information with the service providers that operate this workflow, and we may disclose it when required by law, to protect rights or security, or as part of a business transaction.
Your choices and contact
You can use browser or network privacy tools that limit the IP address or referrer shared with websites, though some site functions or security checks may work differently. You can also ask us about information associated with you or your company, request a correction, or request deletion where applicable.
